May's Island Batik Challenge was to design a paper pieced quilt that celebrates a holiday of choice using the Surprise Fabrics in our January shipment!
The fabric line is gorgeous and I really struggled in finding the right design that showcases these fabrics. I worked on many designs in Electric Quilt 8 and finally found one that I thought was perfect for these fabrics.
Once the design decision was made, the paper piecing sewing began! 50 weight Aurifil Thread was used. The geese and the square in a square blocks were traditionally paper pieced and setting triangles were added so the blocks could be set on point.
When all the blocks were completed and the quilt assembled, Jackie Headley did a fantastic job quilting an edge-to-edge snowflake pattern with a gold colored thread.
I hope you enjoyed seeing the progress of my challenge quilt and if you love this fabric line you can find your nearest quilt store that carries Island Batik fabrics by using the Island Batik Store Locater.
Thank you Island Batik, Aurifil Thread, Schmetz Needles, Hobbs Batting and Oliso Irons! The Ambassador challenges would not be possible if not for these generous partnerships.
Happy Quilting!
